Obama & young voter turnout

I'm sure you are all aware of the high voter turnout rates among young adults in the 2008 Presidential election. Obama's Hope campaign stirred something inside young people that caused many of them to actually care, when many people in our age group don't tend to have an interest or active role in politics.

The video below provides insight into the high unemployment rates of young people, the facts about student loans, and the questions concerning Obama's approval among young people.

Do you think this election will be significantly different from the 2008 one in terms of young voter turnout, and why? Is it because of disappointment over student loans? Do you believe a large percentage of young people felt let down by Obama's presidency? And do you think Obama is trying as hard as he was to get the young votes? Why or why not?

Who gets tax cuts?

Slowly but surely, the poll results are coming in.  Granted the accuracy of polls is shaky, however a recent study done by George Washington University has shown that small business owners are now favoring the incumbent President Barack Obama over former Governor Mitt Romney, 47%-39%, a stunning blow to the Romney campaign.
During the poll 6,415 small business owners were questioned.  Of that, over 40% of them said that more jobs and a stronger economy was most important to them.  Other closely important issues included balancing the budget and dealing with the national debt and the costs of healthcare.
Republicans have often sighted that Obama does not know the inner working of a business because he has never owned or operated a small business, however as President he cut taxes for small businesses over a dozen times.  Meanwhile, Mitt Romney declared a one trillion dollar tax cut for the biggest corporations, hoping to make more capital available to stimulate the economy, and according to Forbes, it should work.
Which is better?  That's for you to decide.  Make your voice heard on November 4th.

Romney: His views on Jersey Shore.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2012/09/14/romney-kelly-ripa-michael-strahan-snooki/70000375/1?csp=34news&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TP-OnPolitics+%28News+-+On+Politics%29

With all the controversy and heated debates that are arising more and more frequently during this election season, one would assume that the large news stations would be focusing on the issues, candidate biographies, and campaign updates. Not so. I ventured out to find an appropriate article or video that would give students my age and the general public insight into what is really going on in the underground political world. What I found was disappointing to say the least. As I am checking recent updates on various news station websites like Fox News and their political rival, CNN, I am astounded to find a "Breaking News" story on Mitt Romney's views of non other than the infamous Jersey Shore member, Snookie. I have uploaded the link at the top of this post and needless to say, a few questions came to mind. Is this what the media is being reduced to? I have to say I have no inquiry as to whether Romney enjoys "Jersey Shore" or "Here comes Honey Boo Boo" more. Are politics and choosing our next PRESIDENT being slashed to which candidate eats PB and J rather than Bologna? Does including a story like this deplete the credibility of the news station or the candidate, or both? I suppose one could take this article in a positive light. Are the viewers gaining more trust by knowing that Romney is an average reality show fiend? Does this make the candidate more relatable and friendly in which he gains votes? As the audience of this post, what other questions come to mind, what are your thoughts?

The Daily Show: Good or Bad?

http://apr.sagepub.com/content/34/3/341.abstract

Viewers who watch The Daily Show tended to rate the politicians more negatively after seeing the show.  Does Jon Stewart provide an accurate representation of the politicians?  Is this where American citizens should be getting their information from?  Does this type of media and the way it is presented, provide for an unbiased form of media?  Do you think that The Daily Show will decrease voter participation because it will make veiwers so pessimistic of the United States' politics?  Personally, I believe that many Americans do get most of their information from The Daily Show because it is the most memorable, and that is what sticks in our heads.  However, I do not believe this is where Americans should be getting all of their information from because the point of the show is to make fun of the politicians, not to provide an accurate documentation.  I think may voters will turn away from voting because they will have such a negative understanding how our politics actually work.  What do you think?
