Next Step
Do you think Minnesota is ready to legalize gay marriage? The amendment failed so isn't the next step legalizing gay marriage? However, personally I don't think this next step will go through so easily. Minnesota will have to amend the amendment that says marriage is between a man and a woman. Do you think we will see this the next general election?

I hope so. And it's not an amendment that is currently making it illegal, it's just legislation. So I think that in order for it to be reversed, it's only something that Congress and the Senate vote on. It won't be in the next election, because only referendums and amendments are voted on by citizens on a ballot. I think this is the case anyway. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. If so, i think it will all come down to who has the majority in the legislator, or hopefully if any Republicans can cross party lines and support marriage equality.
No, i don't think we are ready for it. If the dems try it i think they will get killed in 2014. They won't make that mistake again(think health care overreach). One of the biggest vote no argument i made to undecided was the "we need to have more discussions and debates" argument. We made a commitment to voters that we would continue to debate and discuss this issue, imagine how people would feel if we went around them and passes a bill. Bad bad politics
Erik..the last part sounds like you are scolding a dog :) Thanks for the clarification Meghan! It will be interesting to see how legislators go about this.
