A Break From the Election

Really interesting perspective.
Would providing American-grown marijuana destroy the Mexican economy, or help stop the violent drug trafficking? Both? Is one a better option? Legalization is not an issue that only effects the United States.

I think there a lot of things to think about here other than just the trafficking going on from Mexico. If it was legalized, what sort of regulations would be put on it? Would be able to be just sold on the streets or strictly sold commercially and/or medically? Also, even if it is legalized, I feel like it probably would be highly regulated and and there would still be the issue of people selling it on the streets. Hence, there may very well still be a some illegal trafficking going on. None the less, the article does a good job in explaining how significant of an impact this would be on the drug cartel
I think that because Mexico is so intertwined with the drugs fueling their economy that it will dampen their economic revenue stream. However, i don't think that it will make it disappear. Legalizing marijuana would definitely have to have some restrictions placed on it. There would have to be a distributor restriction that would restrict marijuana to be sold only in a certain location whether that be like cigarettes or via medicinal distributors. None the less, there is going to be still illegal distribution on the side because people can get the marijuana and sell it for less than the market does and still make money. This being said the article does a good job of explaining the impact on the economy of Mexico and what would happen if legalization of marijuana were to occur.
