We Are Millenials

I found this article on CNN and found it highly relatable to myself and I think you guys will see it too. Mainly just the first and last sections, the middle too aren't too politically relevant.

Voting wise, do you guys feel like you're in a similar position to Tyler? Should we be fearful we will also be living at home after graduation, etc.? Why do you think so many "Millenials" are independents?

I thought this was interesting to read. One particular part that stood out to me was that Tyler did support Obama when he was in college, but now after college, he is unsure whom to vote for. I'd say voting wise, I'm a little more set in my decision than Tyler.

As far as living at home goes, I want to avoid moving back with my parents after graduation. Even if it takes multiple jobs, my plan is to graduate college, and begin my life on my own--without my parents' help.

My older brother is going through a similar situation as Tyler. He graduated last May, and has been struggling to find a full time job. He's found a few odd jobs back home, and currently lives with my parents in Washington, but job opportunities are far and few, especially for college graduates with little "real-world" experience.

For right now, all we can hope for is a better job market when we graduate in 2016...

I wish they would have added if he could have owned his own apartment. If that's true then i think he exemplifies what many conservatives are concerned about. It seems like he would rather live with his parents in comfort(They have a pool!) then to live in his own apartment. That's something we should be very concerned about.

As much as i hate to say it, sometimes you have to major in something that can make money instead of being what you love. I guess this is the argument against liberal education, it won't prepare you as well for the job market.

I am definitely fearful of having to move back home. With the economy now, I know that it is okay to move back to your parent's house for a year or two to get back on your feet. Knowing that, I do NOT want to be the 30 year old still trying to get a substantial job. I guess I see why Milleniums are more independent now because we haven't seen much of a change since Obama was elected. That doesn't mean it's not possible. I would rather look on the bright side of things.

I have heard of multiple cases of college graduates moving back home. I want to avoid that at all costs. Like Cari, I found it interesting that Tyler voted for Obama in 2008 but now is unsure. Obama needs to do a better job of making opportunities for college graduates so he can gain their votes. We will see if Obama brings this up in any of the upcoming debates!

I think so many millenials are independent because of the technology we've been raised using, hence the many opportunities and the open minds we tend to have. Seeing the world being run by people with typical 4-hour a week jobs and traditional belief systems has definitely an impact on our generation, and I think many of us want to defy the "norm" so we can believe in change. Obama presented a wonderful campaign to millenials in 2008 because he embraced the idea of change. Obama should focus more on the continuation and persistence of that idea of change and I think the millenial voters would be more attracted to voting for him again.
