Romney: His views on Jersey Shore.

With all the controversy and heated debates that are arising more and more frequently during this election season, one would assume that the large news stations would be focusing on the issues, candidate biographies, and campaign updates. Not so. I ventured out to find an appropriate article or video that would give students my age and the general public insight into what is really going on in the underground political world. What I found was disappointing to say the least. As I am checking recent updates on various news station websites like Fox News and their political rival, CNN, I am astounded to find a "Breaking News" story on Mitt Romney's views of non other than the infamous Jersey Shore member, Snookie. I have uploaded the link at the top of this post and needless to say, a few questions came to mind. Is this what the media is being reduced to? I have to say I have no inquiry as to whether Romney enjoys "Jersey Shore" or "Here comes Honey Boo Boo" more. Are politics and choosing our next PRESIDENT being slashed to which candidate eats PB and J rather than Bologna? Does including a story like this deplete the credibility of the news station or the candidate, or both? I suppose one could take this article in a positive light. Are the viewers gaining more trust by knowing that Romney is an average reality show fiend? Does this make the candidate more relatable and friendly in which he gains votes? As the audience of this post, what other questions come to mind, what are your thoughts?

I agree with you that perhaps it would be stretching it to say that this is important or breaking news by any means. But at the same time, it is creating an image. Romney is having a hard enough time being likable and relatable, so maybe the fact that he likes Snooki and peanut butter and jelly and chocolate milk will create some sense of sameness with the "average Joe." He didn't say that his guilty food pleasure was foi grois and caviar with merlot.
On a side note, does anyone else think it is kind of odd that the Romneys' favorite TV show is Modern Family, when there is a gay couple on the show? That stood out to me above anything else in this article.
I understand what you are saying but shouldn't breaking news be something more worthy than reality television debates, more so say..the issues? Perhaps there is a way to create a likable image while discussing the issues and hot topics.
I agree. Let's not waste our time on this BS, but rather educate people about what each candidate actually stands for.
I can certainly see what Megan is saying as well. My problem however, is that fact that it takes something so ridiculous as a reality show star and favoring one over the other in order to get perhaps a younger audience to appeal to him. However I don't think that's the candidate's fault, it's our generations fault as a mass to even like something like that or look up to it. I know plenty of people who really want to live that lifestyle that Snooki portrays. I don't mean to say it's a lifestyle not worthy of living, if you want it, go for it, but I do feel there are other and bigger things that should be addressed. On the other hand, perhaps some people enjoy the fact that politics have taken a quick break from more serious things. I can see the positive side in that. Still, I believe that it wasn't a very tasteful part on the News Station's part.
